Butch Miles graduated from West Virginia State College in 1966 and worked locally.  He then toured with Mel Torme in the early Seventies and with the Count Basie Orchestra during the latter half of the decade.

He's a colorful soloist and a technician in the tradition of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.  He's a busy freelance musician and has played many jazz festivals in parties.  In addition, he has also played with Dave Brubeck, Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Wild Bill Davidson, Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, and Woody Herman, among others.

He has recorded 5 albums, which featured swing standards.

I saw him with the Basie Orchestra at the Kansas State University Jazz Festival in 1997 and 98 and was VERY impressed.
